Fans could test their skills in throwing, jumping and running the 40-yard dash. They posed for pictures with mannequins dressed in new football uniforms. At Hart Plaza before the draft began, guests packed into the NFL Experience, a festival of food and games all connected to the sport of the hour. Some fans waited in line to take selfies with the Vince Lombardi Trophy, which is given to the winner of the Super Bowl.
Grading Lions' New Uniforms
Only a Clevelander can truly love brown mixed with orange, otherwise only seen on the less-appetizing candy corn or Tony Gwynn’s San Diego Padres. Points are further deducted after the team didn’t use its brown-over-brown combo with orange numbers last season. But the Browns are very excited to be going back to their white facemasks – points for acknowledging their relative 1980s greatness – and a glossy orange shell. For the first time since 2007, the Detroit Lions will rock a black alternate jersey. The white look with the blue font is easy to read and simple to comprehend.

Their Honolulu blue jerseys mingled with ones that were royal blue (Dallas Cowboys), navy blue (Tennessee Titans) and powder blue (Los Angeles Chargers). The sprawling spectacle represented the marketing of a city and a sport. Detroit wanted the country to see how it has changed since its bankruptcy in 2013.

But things would be a whole lot better with some throwbacks mixed in – preferably navy jerseys and helmets with white ram horns. Say this for former HC Arthur Smith – at least he embraced the throwbacks and kept those hideous gradient alternates out of sight. The Lions’ closet will continue to feature a classic uniform as a nod to the late 50s teams that dominated the early era of professional football.

Sleeves are similar in style to the home uniforms except the striping is Honolulu blue. The Lions new home jerseys remain Honolulu Blue, a color first established in 1934. Their classic, simple look is increasingly familiar – just ask the Swifties. And the arrowhead KC logo is also becoming synonymous with excellence and dominance. But a little variety would be nice, the champs the only team that doesn’t employ a third jersey and stubbornly disinterested in expanding their wardrobe.
Detroit's NFL Draft party continues on day 2
They should take a cue from the Jets – imagine that, New Yorkers – and revert to their late-20th century uniforms permanently or, at minimum, make those their primaries. Befuddling that, aside from the helmet, “Big Blue” currently has zero blue in its main roadies. The unique aqua and orange color scheme is an appropriate homage to South Florida, and the new logo has aged decently – though, like their AFC East brethren, the Fins’ throwbacks remain the superior look. Be nice if black and purple complemented each other a bit better, but when you’re going for Edgar Allan Poe...
Behind the Scenes: Detroit Lions 2024 NFL Draft
Now the Lions, as well as all other NFL teams, can add another helmet design into the mix. The NFL approved a third game-eligible helmet design with some restrictions on usage. The Lions unveiled their new alternate helmet for the 2023 season and it’s beautiful.

The shoulder sleeves are not hard on the eyes and are simple enough to not draw too much attention away from the center of the jersey. The organization will be able to pair the jersey with both the silver and blue pants, so the 'blueberry' look that became popular last season will continue to be in the fold going forward. The white of the numbers pops with a nice contrast to the darker hue of blue. Additionally, the color of the jersey pairs nicely with the new blue facemasks. The Lions made a small tweak with the color, as it appears to be a shade that is a touch darker than the last rendition. This is a solid change and looks crisp along with the white lettering and numerals on the jersey.

When will Lions wear new alternate helmets?

(CBS DETROIT) - Detroit Lions unveiled new uniforms on Thursday, including a black alternate uniform. This is the first season teams have been allowed to have three helmet shells, after a recent decision by the league to allow a third design, starting with teams who were already in the process of a uniform re-design for the 2024 season. Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown poses for a photo in the team's new white road uniforms. After plenty of hype surrounding what the organization's new digs would look like, they unveiled their new uniforms at an event Thursday night.
The inside back collar of each jersey has a different slogan - the blue jersey reads "One Pride" while the white has "313" and the black reads "Motor City." Other changes you may have noticed right away - the numbers and the names with more of a block style. The white numbers on the blue jerseys certainly pop way more than the old silver ones.
No better head-to-toe alternate in the league than the white tiger kit topped with the bleached helmet and black tiger stripes. They’ve also nicely toned down their primary uniforms, which remains one of the league’s more creative, fun looks. Wouldn’t complain if they punted entirely on the orange jerseys – though they effectively have, donning them just once last season. With the exception of the yellow-white gradient on the blue jersey’s numbers and blue pants’ striping … it’s kinda grown on us holistically, even the increasingly (and correctly) minimized “Bone” roadies.
NFL uniform guidelines only permit the alternate helmets to be worn with an alternate uniform, which includes both a throwback and an all-gray setup for the Lions. Given the awkward contrast between the new, modern helmet design and the throwback jersey, which is noted for its simplicity, the team only intends to wear the blue helmet with its gray uniforms. The Lions' home uniforms feature a modern take on classic Detroit jerseys, starting with a "refreshing" of the characteristic Honolulu Blue the Lions have had in their color scheme for most of their history. The blue jersey features the return of white numbers and will be worn with silver pants, moving on from the gray color worn in recent years. The contrasting stripes on the shoulders and pants resemble those used on the Ford Mustang and feature white accents as well, while the collars will be inscribed with "One Pride" on the inside. The Honolulu blue helmet displays the team's 1960s logo, a lion prowling across two vertical stripes (one blue, one silver) on the sides of the helmet, with a silver facemask attached to the shell.
NFL teams are only permitted to wear an alternate uniform three times during the season. Presumably, the Lions will wear their throwbacks for the third game, possibly for the Thanksgiving matchup against Green Bay. Another inside-only jersey embellishment will be wording sewn into the collar of the three jerseys.

It takes really two years to really get going, so (chief communications and brand officer) Brian (Facchini) and a team have been kind of working with Nike, looking at uniforms that will probably be for 2024. The post feature a classic Ford car with the license plate “ALT HMT” and a decal with the June 21 date. Either way, here's what you need to know about the Motor City's latest innovation in fashion. The Lions chose not to update uniforms this year—but suggested they could be coming in 2024.
"We felt going back to a cleaner look, like back in the day, was the right way to go." At the Ford Field event for the reveal, the fans in attendance seemed to be coming around on the look.
